Exchange Setup
BrighterTrading connects to cryptocurrency exchanges to fetch market data and execute trades. You can view data from any supported exchange without configuration, but you'll need API keys to trade.
Supported exchanges
The platform supports 15+ exchanges via ccxt:
Binance, KuCoin, Coinbase, Bybit, OKX, Bitfinex, Bitget, Bitstamp, Gate, Gemini, HTX, MEXC, Poloniex, and more.
Connected vs configured
In the Exchange Info panel, you'll see two lists:
- Connected — Exchanges available for viewing market data. All supported exchanges are connected automatically.
- Configured — Exchanges where you've added API keys for trading.
Adding API keys
To trade on an exchange, you need to create API keys on that exchange's website and add them to BrighterTrading:
- Log in to your exchange
- Navigate to API management (usually under account settings or security)
- Create a new API key with trading permissions
- Copy the API key and secret
- In BrighterTrading, open the Exchange Info panel
- Click Connect and enter your credentials
- Never share your API keys with anyone
- Only enable the permissions you need (trading). Disable withdrawal permissions for safety.
- Some exchanges also provide a passphrase — you'll need this too if applicable
Exchange configuration dialog
When you click Connect, a dialog opens with the following fields:
API Key. Your exchange API key. This is the public identifier.
Secret. Your exchange API secret. This is the private key that authenticates requests.
Passphrase. Some exchanges require a third credential. KuCoin and Coinbase both require a passphrase that you set when creating the API key. Other exchanges (Binance, Bybit, etc.) don't use this field.
Each exchange has an info icon next to it that links to a setup guide for creating API keys on that specific exchange.
Viewing exchange information
Once configured, the Exchange Info panel shows:
- Balances — Your account balances on each configured exchange. Use the dropdown to switch between exchanges.
- Active Trades — Open positions on the exchange
- Open Orders — Pending orders waiting to be filled
